Septic Maintenance FAQ’s
How often should I have my septic tank emptied?
A septic tank should be emptied every 3-5 years.
What maintenance does a septic system require?
Regular pumping and periodic inspections are essential. We can connect you with trusted partners for ongoing maintenance.
What do I do if my septic tank is leaking or crumbling?
Due to the harsh environment in a septic tank, some tanks will fail after years of service. We specialize in replacing failing septic tanks with our high quality concrete or fiberglass tank options.
How do you replace a failing septic tank?
Once it’s confirmed that your tank needs to be replaced, we conduct a site visit to identify the size and type of tank needed, site access and limitations, and collect any information we need to apply for the permit. When the permit and supplies are ready, we schedule a day to come do the work. Most basic tank replacements only take us a day to complete.
Do you service rural and off-grid properties?
Yes—we specialize in rural septic solutions and have experience with off-grid systems and remote access challenges.
Are you licensed for septic system work?
Yes, we are fully certified and follow Manitoba regulations for all installations and repairs.
How do I know if I need a repair or full replacement?
We’ll assess your existing system and recommend repairs or replacement based on age, function, and condition.
What will a new septic system cost?
This can vary a lot, depending on your size of home, soil type, location, accessibility, and more. An average, tank, pump, and field should cost between $18,000 and $25,000. We can provide a quote after the site assessment is complete.
Do you design and install septic systems?
Yes—we handle everything from system design to full installation, including permits and inspections.
What kind of septic systems do you install?
We install both conventional and advanced systems depending on soil type, usage, and property layout.
How long does a typical installation take?
Most residential systems take 2-3 days to complete, depending on site conditions and weather.
What is the process to get a new septic system installed?
Because your soil and site are critical components of a well-functioning septic system, proper design begins with a site assessment and soil sampling. Contact us to schedule a site visit, during which we will assess your property and dig several test pits. Soil samples from these test pits must be sent to a lab for analysis. There is a flat fee of $600 to cover these costs.
Once we receive the lab results, we can begin designing your septic system and provide an accurate quote. To move forward with this step, we will need the following information: your legal land description, the size and dimensions of your property, your name, address, email address, and the number of bedrooms in your home.
If you approve the quote, we will apply for the necessary permit and begin organizing supplies. Once the permit is approved, we can schedule your installation. The installation process typically takes 2–3 days. Please allow a minimum of four weeks from your initial call to the completed system. This timeline may be longer depending on scheduling and current workload.

We load your truck, or deliver directly to your site.
Pit run gravel
An unscreened, non-classified granular material made up of various sizes of sand and rock, including larger stones up to 6″, or more, in diameter
Recommended Uses
Perfect for filling in low-lying areas, especially where you need significant build-up—such as driveways, farmyards, or underneath a new construction site. It provides a solid fill layer that can be topped with finer gravel for finishing. A great budget-friendly option for large fill areas where appearance isn’t critical.
Traffic gravel
A blend of crushed stone and sand, sized at 7/8” and down, typically with lower clay content. Because of this, it doesn’t pack quite as tightly as A-Base gravel but offers excellent drainage and is easy to regrade when necessary.
Recommended Uses
Ideal for the top layer of driveways, approaches, and yards—especially where a clean and tidy appearance is desired. It’s best used where the underlying surface is already firm and properly graded.
1” Round Drain Stone
A clean, naturally rounded stone ranging from ⅜” to 1” in diameter.
Recommended Uses
An economical alternative to crushed stone for drainage applications, including weeping tile systems, foundation drainage, or behind retaining walls. Its smooth, rounded shape allows water to flow freely through it.
¾” crushed stone
A clean, crushed rock between ⅜” and ⅞” in size. This product is screened to remove fines, leaving a tidy, well-graded material.
Recommended Uses
Often chosen for its polished, upscale look on driveways and parking lots. It’s also used for drainage applications like weeping tile and French drains, where clean, free-draining stone is essential. The multi-colored appearance adds a touch of style to any property.
A-Base Gravel
A well-balanced mixture of crushed stone, sand, and clay, sized at ¾” and down. The specified clay content helps it compact extremely well, making it ideal for structural support.
Recommended Uses
Used widely for creating a strong, stable base for driveways, roads, parking areas, and building foundations. It can also be used as a top layer in high-traffic areas where long-term durability is needed. If you need gravel that packs hard and holds up under vehicles, this is your go-to material.
2’ minus gravel
A more economical version of A-Base gravel, made up of stone, sand, and clay with larger pieces up to 2” in diameter.
Recommended Uses
Ideal for building up roadways, driveways, yards, or construction pads. Its larger rock content makes it great for reinforcing soft or wet ground, but it should be topped with a finer product like A-Base or Traffic Gravel to ensure a smooth, maintainable surface. A cost-effective choice when a strong base is needed over a large area.
Shale
A dense, grey, angular product sourced from sedimentary rock. This material can be in larger pieces at its source, but tends to break down into smaller pieces with handling and exposure to weather.
Recommended Uses
Excellent for establishing a strong base in consistently wet or muddy areas, such as cattle pens, alleys, or soft farm roads. It’s best used for deeper fill areas, due to the initial size of its pieces. It provides a long-lasting foundation where depth and durability are needed.
bedding sand
A screened, uniform sand no larger than ⅜” in size, providing a consistent, cushioned layer.
Recommended Uses
Commonly used for bedding underground utilities such as pipes, wires, and tanks. It protects materials from sharp objects in surrounding soils and helps reduce the chance of shifting or damage due to settling.
landscape boulders
A diverse selection of large boulders in various shapes, colors, and sizes to suit your landscape vision.
Recommended Uses
Use as focal points in gardens, edging for driveways or paths, or to add natural character to your yard. A great way to create visual impact and a one-of-a-kind outdoor space.
rip rap
Large, clean rock available in several size categories, typically ranging from 4” up to 24”. The pieces are durable, and angular or rounded, depending on the source.
Recommended Uses
Used to protect shorelines, ditches, culverts, and embankments from erosion due to water flow. It also serves as an attractive landscape feature where a rugged, natural look is desired.
screened topsoil
A high-quality blend of local black dirt and peat moss, screened for a fine, consistent texture.
Recommended Uses
Perfect for lawns, gardens, flower beds, and landscape finishing. Its rich composition supports healthy root growth, moisture retention, and easy spreading for a clean finish.
crusher chips
A sharp-edged, multi-colored crushed gravel sized at ⅜” and down. Its angular shape allows it to compact well while maintaining its decorative appeal.
Recommended Uses
Excellent for residential walkways, bike paths, driveways, and parking areas. It stays in place better than rounded rock and gives a crisp, clean look. Its small size also makes it safer around landscaping and lawns—it won’t damage lawnmower blades and is stable underfoot. Also great as a base layer for paving stones or interlock.
limestone products
Crushed limestone products available in a variety of sizes. Known for its white color.
Recommended Uses
Excellent for road and driveway bases, yard construction, and decorative landscaping. Limestone’s light color gives a polished look and is often preferred for visibility and aesthetics. It’s also believed to help deter rodents when used around building foundations.
Please note: due to our location, this is a premium product with higher transportation costs.
2”–3” Stone (River Rock)
Naturally rounded rock between 1.5” and 3.5” in diameter.
Recommended Uses
Ideal for decorative landscaping where a larger, bold appearance is desired—great for garden borders, shrub beds, or around water features. Also used in septic treatment fields for filtration and drainage.
fine sand
A finely screened sand at ⅛” and down, offering a soft, even texture.
Recommended Uses
Used in recreational spaces like beaches, volleyball courts, and playgrounds. Also suitable for paver installation, light bedding applications, and leveling areas where a finer material is required.
